CANTONESE OPERA FANTASIA, ENOCH CHENG x JASON KONG
To celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Tiger, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, New York (HKETONY), collaborates with Enoch Cheng and Jason Kong to present the “Cantonese Opera Fantasia”, showcasing the creative energy of Hong Kong's artistic talents. Take a journey with them into their imaginative world and relish in this reinterpretation of a traditional art form, that encompasses acrobatics, and colorful costumes and make-up, with a modern twist!
Enoch Cheng is a multi-disciplinary artist, whose practice spans moving image, dance, theatre, and fashion. He was the recipient of the Award for Young Artist (Media Arts), presented by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) in 2016. Enoch was a resident artist at the American Museum of Natural History in New York in 2020, under the sponsorship of the Asian Cultural Council and HKETONY. Jason Kong is a Cantonese opera playwright, composer, and performer. He devotes himself in the development of Cantonese opera, which was listed by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage. He was the recipient of HKADC's Award for Young Artist (Cantonese Opera) in 2012.
