HONG KONG PANORAMa , NEW YORK ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL
The vibrant and versatile Hong Kong cinema continues to shine on the world stage at the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF). This year, the Hong Kong Panorama film series featured 15 Hong Kong films with screenings taking place online, in-theatre and outdoors. Critically acclaimed Hong Kong director Ann Hui received the “Variety Star Asia Lifetime Achievement Award” at this year’s festival. Celebrating Hui's achievement, NYAFF screened her early works “The Story of Woo Viet” and “Boat People”, as well as Man Lim-chung’s insightful portrait of the director in “Keep Rolling”.
One of Hong Kong's most versatile and prolific actor Gordon Lam Ka-tung received the "Variety Star Asia Award" during the festival, which featured an unprecedented four of his most recent films: the electrifying brutal thriller “Limbo” by Soi Cheang; the gritty “Hand Rolled Cigarette”, a winning film of Hong Kong’s First Feature Film Initiative by new director Chan Kin-long; and a cameo appearance in the high-spirited "All U Need is Love". Lam served as producer in Ricky Ko's "Time".
This year’s festival (Aug 6 - 22) also featured the bizarre satire "Coffin Homes" by Fruit Chan; the prison-escape dramedy "Breakout Brothers", “Zero to Hero”, a film produced by and starring Sandra Ng; “Shadows” by Glenn Chan; "One Second Champion" by Chiu Sin-hang and "The Way We Keep Dancing" by Adam Wong.
ANN HUI RECEIVES VARIETY STAR ASIA LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
One of the most critically acclaimed Hong Kong New Wave filmmakers for four decades, Ann Hui is the recipient of the Variety Star Asia Lifetime Achievement Award. GORDON LAM RECEIVES 2021 VARIETY STAR ASIA AWARD
Versatile and prolific Hong Kong actor Gordon Lam Ka Tung is the recipient of New York Asian Film Festival's 2021 Variety Star Asia Award. His outstanding performance can be seen in "Hand Rolled Cigarette" and "Limbo" featured in this year's festival. He is also the producer of "Time", another film title under Hong Kong Panorama.
